As if we needed another reason to eat rich and buttery avocados. We’re already getting these benefits from avocados:

  • 2 grams of protein and
  • 15 grams of healthy fats (and low in saturated fats)
  • 7 grams of fiber

And now it turns out, eating avocados might also reverse your aging process, and it’s all thanks to a a chemical known as nicotinamide mononucleotide (NMN), which naturally occurs in small amounts in avocados.

In the latest issue of Science , David Sinclair – a professor of genetics at Harvard Medical School – and his colleagues, revealed how NMN keeps cells young by actually reversing the aging process. The researchers found, that when they increased levels of NMN in older mice, they physiologically appeared younger. Apparently young mice already have an abundance of NMN in their cells, but the amount is significantly lower in older mice.

So until this is properly tested on humans, we can continue to enjoy avocados, and perhaps feel a little younger at the same time.
